Light Box

How to make a DIY light tent

I needed to build a Light box/tent in order to take some product pictures for some stuff my wife is making. After looking around I found a video by Lexy Savvides over at CNet Australia.

The video breaks it down and Lexy makes the video fun (love the unedited bloopers).

I used muslin instead of the Baking paper for my version of the light box. Here’s the result and a pair of sample shots.

Spring Cleaning

U.S. National Archives’ Local Identifier: 412-DA-10739

Decided to do a bit of cleanup on the site by removing the “Link Roundup” posts generated from my diigo account.

You should start seeing a bit more traffic since I’m planning to write a bit more about .Net, PHP, Symfony and a big of WordPress backend stuff. This is what I’m working on and these post will help as notes to go back.

Four hours wasted thanks to Drupal

Well, I thought I would give Drupal a try since I’ve been playing around with DrupalGardens and it seems to work nicely the way they have it set up.

First of all, I used the export option which tar.gz’s up the whole install (including modules and themes) and a SQL file to import into your database. This is a nice option, I was able to have a clone up on my host within a short time. The problems started to pop up once I tried to use the damn thing and most of them had to do with presentation. So, after four hours or so I’ve decided to remove Drupal and re-install WordPress.

You might be asking yourself (probably not), why would I drop WordPress (after just moving from Blogger) to use Drupal. Well, Drupal is supposed to be a better CMS than WordPress, but it and I just don’t click well. I guess I need to start looking at using WordPress as a CMS.

UPDATE 2011-06-09: I’ve some really good docs and presentations on Drupal 7 and hope to get a better idea on how to use it. I’m probably leaving this site as is, but will be launching a new site in the near future. I’ll make sure to post on Drupal once I launch the site.

Hello world!

I’ve decided to move back to WordPress after playing around with Blogger for some time. Blogger is a great platform for a simple blog and Analytics and Adsense integration, but in the end I ended up missing many of the features in WordPress. I probably would have been fine if I would have just started out with Blogger instead of moving from WordPress.

Anyway, I will be leaving all of my previous posts on Blogger and will be starting fresh with WordPress. I will however update my Blogger template to mention that the my blog has moved back to http://siliconchaos.com from http://siliconchaos.blogspot.com

I did find a few articles on how to migrate from Blogger to WordPress and in order to have search engines update correctly with the new address it involved setting up custom domain setting on Blogger and some .htaccess magic. It didn’t seem very complicated, but I think it would have just given me a headache which I’d rather not have.

It’ll probably be a few days before I start posting again while I get Analytics, Adsense and probably a custom theme setup.
