Steve decided to make his own XServe since Apple stopped making them. His solution includes 160 Mac Minis in a custom rack with customized power connectors and cooling. Make sure to check out the complete blog (it’s only about 10 posts).
Looks like this turned out to be a nice upgrade since he was putting 40 XServe’s in a single rack giving him 320 cores per rack. The new Mac mini configuration will no give him 640 real cores (1280 hyper-threaded cores).
